Skin Cancer’s catalyst is Skin lotion and Sunscreen

February 10, 2009 by

Sunscreen and its friend skin lotion are keeping the rates of skin cancer and other cancers high. Sunscreen blocks out the ultraviolet rays needed for the body to produce the hormone called Vitamin D.  Lack of Vitamin D has been linked to increased rates of all types of cancer, including skin, prostate, and breast cancer. To make matters worse, the chemicals that are in sunscreen and body lotion are absorbed into the skin and bloodstream. This creates a toxic environment for the body. Some of the ingredients in most sunscreen and body lotions are not designed to be placed on the body. “If you cannot eat it, do not put it on your skin” should be the rule used to determine whether or not a product is safe for human use.  Instead of the common body lotion products, shea butter, cocoa butter, and sweet almond oil are all great at moisturizing the skin.

For long days out in sun, there are a few natural ways to combat overexposure to the sun rays. Light-skinned persons need to spend less time in the sun than brown or dark-skinned persons. Dark-skinned persons can spend much longer in the sun than light-skinned persons because their skin naturally blocks the rays of the sun better due to their dark pigmentation. Also, there are natural sunscreen lotions that do not have bad ingredients in them. These should be used as a last option. Furthermore, tanning salons need to be avoided. We were given a specific hue for a reason. Tampering with it by browning ourselves can lead to carcinogenic leathery skin.

Next, diet and exercise are essential. A healthy person can tolerate the sunrays better than an unhealthy person. So, exercise is important. It toughens and increases the stamina of the body. Depending on what a person consumes can determine how well they can tolerate the effects of the sun. For example, eating a Braeburn apple just before going outside for an extended period of time may provide additional protection from the sun.

So, to recap the above information:

  • Determine whether your pigmentation light, dark, or in between. Use this to dictate how long you can be in the sun.
  • Eat the proper food and exercise regularly.
  • If you must, use a natural sunscreen without the bad ingredients.
  • Use natural body lotions for everyday use.
  • Take Vitamin D supplements
